How to Change Your Address or Name with the FCC
FCC licensees must keep their contact information current. Here's how to update your address or name in the FCC ULS to keep your license records accurate.
FCC regulations require amateur radio licensees to maintain current contact information in the Universal Licensing System. If you move or legally change your name, you should update your FCC records promptly. Outdated information can cause you to miss renewal notices and may technically constitute a rule violation.
Why Keeping Your Address Current Matters
The FCC sends renewal reminders to the address on file in the ULS. If your address is outdated, you may not receive these reminders and could miss your renewal window. Additionally, FCC enforcement communications go to the address on file — an outdated address complicates any FCC proceeding involving your license.
More practically: your address in the FCC ULS is public record. If you have moved and your old address is still showing, it may cause confusion for other operators who look up your call sign. Keeping it current is good practice.
How to Update Your Address
- Log into wireless.fcc.gov/uls with your FRN and password
- Navigate to My Licenses
- Select the license you want to update
- Choose Administrative Update (not Renewal or Modification)
- Update the address fields with your new address
- Submit the application — no fee required for address updates
Your updated address appears in the ULS within a few days and in third-party databases like CallSignLookup after the next daily data export.
How to Update Your Name
Name changes (due to marriage, divorce, or legal name change) are handled similarly through the Administrative Update process. You may be asked to certify that the change reflects a legal name change. The FCC does not require documentation of the name change for amateur radio licenses, but you should retain your legal documentation in case it is ever needed.
Updating Your FRN Account
Your address change in the ULS also updates your FRN account information. If you have licenses in multiple services, a single administrative update for one license may not automatically update all licenses — you may need to submit separate updates for each affected license.
