How to Search FCC Licenses by State

The FCC's Universal Licensing System contains licenses from all 50 states plus US territories. Whether you're looking for amateur radio operators in your county, GMRS users in a neighboring city, or maritime licensees along your coast, CallSignLookup makes it easy to drill down by geography.

Browsing the State Index

The state index shows every state with its total amateur radio license count. Clicking any state takes you to a hub page where you can further filter by operator class — for example, viewing only Extra class operators in Texas, or Technician class operators in Florida. The state pages also show a name-search filter so you can narrow results even further within a state.

What State Data Tells You

State breakdowns reveal some interesting patterns. California, Texas, and Florida consistently rank as the top states for licensed amateur radio operators by sheer volume, but smaller states like Wyoming and Vermont have high per-capita rates. Some states also have large concentrations of GMRS licensees in rural areas where repeater networks provide reliable coverage where cell service is weak.

For finding operators in a specific area, the search tool also lets you search by city name, which can be more precise than browsing by state when you're looking for operators in a specific metro area.
